Football Elections to be held within 69 days

The Director General of Sports Amal Edirisuriya yesterday (20) informed the Court of Appeal that elections for the Football Sri Lanka (FSL) would be held within 69 days.

The undertaking was given when a case filed by President FSL Jaswar Umar and FSL Secretary Upali Hewage was taken for hearing at the Court of Appeal yesterday.

40 football leagues of the country have submitted a motion asking the Court to consider them as an intervening party supporting the immediate holding of the elections for the federation.
Prevailing crisis in the football governing body could be solved only by holding an immediate election.

Therefore, the FSL Elections will now be held during the last week of December.    

The Court of Appeal took the case of FSL filed by the President and Secretary for the national and public interest after the Sports Minister reversed the Gazette notification extending the term of office of FSL.
