Football Sri Lanka has decided to recommence the Lanka Super League, which was temporarily suspended, in the third week of August.
When the tournament was halted on May 2 due to the FIFA World Cup Qualification Round (Asia), 15 of the 45 matches of the Super League had been completed.
The winners of the Super League, which is Sri Lanka’s first ever semi-professional football competition, will receive Rs. 50 million.
Colombo FC, New Young FC, Blue Star SC, Red Star FC, Ratnam SC, Up Country Lions FC, Sea Hawks FC and Defenders FC are the sides participating in the tournament. Sea Hawks FC is the only unbeaten team in the tournament after 15 games.
The organisers hope to complete the remaining 30 matches of the Super League in six weeks, according to FSL President Jaswar Umar.
