Sri Lanka Athletics (SLA) are planning to grant scholarships to 10 high-profile athletes in an overseas country from January, 2022.
President, SLA Major General (Retired) Palitha Fernando said that five athletes will receive scholarships through the courtesy of Qatar and a further five scholarships will be sponsored by the State.
This was following a successful bi-lateral discussion between the Sports Minister Namal Rajapaksa and his counterpart from Qatar.
Five senior athletes with the potential of winning medals at next year’s international events and another five junior (Under 20) athletes will be selected for these scholarships.
The scholarship will be for a period of one year and SLA have already started the necessary preparations to select the suitable athletes.
Five athletes will be selected while targeting the Commonwealth Games, World Championships and the Asian Games while five more athletes will be picked in preparation for the Junior Asian Championship.
