Four Sri Lankans advance to ITF second-round

Four Sri Lanka junior players came out victorious in the first-round matches of the ITF Junior Circuit Week-2 Tennis Tournament during the rain-affected first day at the SLTA Courts in Green Path, Colombo.

In the Boys’ category Methwan Wijemanne, Zaidh Zihar and Vichinthya Nilaweera won their respective matches against Dev Kanbargimath of Romania, Loius Knese of Germany and Prakaash Sarran of India while in the Girls’ category Anitra Dharmaratne overcame Leyla Knese of Germany to advance to the second-round.

No play was possible on day two due to heavy rain and the ITF Junior Circuit Week-1 Tournament was called off and the organisers were forced to cancel the two finals due to time factor. (M. Shamil Amit)

Rishitha Basireddy (India) beat Ruo Qing Yang (China) 6-1, 6-1. Amodini Naik (India) beat Sandithi Usgodaarachchi (Sri Lanka) 6-1, 6-1.
