Four women boxers from Sri Lanka Air Force will represent the country at the 58th World Military Boxing Championships, which begins in Moscow, Russia today.

The four boxers were selected to compete in this event after considering their recent success at the Layton Cup, Clifford Cup, National Championships and South Asian Games (SAG).

The four boxers who would represent the country at this meet are Chamodi Pasyala (57kg), Sajeewani Cooray (60kg), Kashmi Thivanka (69kg) and Gayani Kaluarachchi (75kg).

In fact, five-time national champion Cooray is the most experienced pugilist. The 31-year-old was a Bronze Medallist at the 2019 SAG in Nepal.

She lost to the world number three from India in the featherweight (57kg) at the Thailand Open Boxing Tournament in 2019.

Meanwhile, Squadron Leader Prasad Wijesinghe also from Air Force will join the touring party as referee while Danushka Ariyaratne will accompany the team as coach.

The boxers and officials met Air Force Commander Air Marshall Sudarshana Pathirana before their departure.
