Four decades of exquisite karate Sri Lanka Gojukai Association celebrates 42nd anniversary

 One of the most acclaimed karate styles in Sri Lanka,  Gojukai, celebrated its 42nd anniversary at Ariyana Reach, Maharagama  recently.   


The occasion was graced by the President of the Sri Lanka Karate-Do Federation (SLKF) Shihan  H.M. Sisira Kumara (6th Dan - S.L.K.F. Sri Lanka, 5th DAN - I.K.G.A.  Japan, and 4th DAN - R.K.H.S. Japan), who is also current President of  the Sri Lanka Gojukai Association. It’s Secretary Shihan Seetha  Wijewardena (6th DAN - S.L.K.F. Sri Lanka and 5th DAN - International),  who had been coach of the Sri Lanka karate team, was present too.   


Shihan Wijewardena still trains many male and female  students in martial arts, mainly for self-defense as well as for  improving their skills for both local and international competitions.  Wijewardena currently does her training at the Gojukai head quarters at  No. 36, 1st Lane, Jambugasmulla Road, Nugegoda.   During these 42nd anniversary celebrations of Gojukai,  students who had successfully acquired necessary skills on the art were  awarded with black belts (Shodan status).   


Meanwhile those who had performed and won awards at various  national and international karate competitions were presented with  certificates of honour to acknowledge the contribution to Gojukai  association. Those who received such certificates were Akmal Thotawatta,  Ushitha Pandula, Gawesh Chandimal, Abdul Safek, Niosal Perera, Sonal  Akbo, Dmesser Dissanayake, M.G.S.Premakumara and Indusara Wijetunge.  There were many other highlights during this memorable event. The Sri Lanka Karate-Do Federation President Shihan  Sisira Kumara was honoured for being in that position for four  consecutive years. Meanwhile, Indusara Wijetunge, black belt (shodan)  student performed debuting with his music band for entertainment during  fellowship.
