A total of four new meet records were established on the opening day of the 91st Ritzbury Sir John Tarbat Senior Athletic Championships, conducted by the Sri Lanka Schools Athletic Association that commenced at the Sugathadasa Stadium in Colombo yesterday.
Three out of the four records were set up in the Boys’ segment while one record was established in the Girls’ category.
M. T. Mendis of Lyceum International School, Wattala set up a new mark in the Boys’ Under-16 High Jump event with an effort of 2.00m.
Ayomal Akalanka of Ambagamuwa CC also set a new record in the Boys’ Under-18 400m Hurdles with a time of 52.3s.
In addition, M. M. Yasiru of Kahawatta CC set a new mark in the Boys’ Under-20 Triple Jump event with a distance of 16.19m.
Meanwhile, U. M. S. Himashani of Ambagamuwa CC set up a new record in the Girls’ Under-16 400m Hurdles heats with a time of 1:05.3s.
