Four new records were set on the third day of the Junior Nationals Athletic Championship at the Sugathadasa Stadium yesterday.
Today is the final day of the championship.
After three days of competition and 117 finals being worked off, a total of 13 new marks have been established.
The new record set yesterday were by Nihinsa Mandini (Yatiyana MV, Matara) in Under-20 girls’ hammer throw of 37.46 metres (previous record 30.34m), Rumesh Tharanga (St. Peter’s College, Colombo) U-20 boys’ Javelin throw 69.30m (previous record 64.63m), S Mithunraj (Hartley College, Point Pedro) U-20 boys’ hammer throw 40.45m (previous record 39.73m), and A Puvitharan (Army) U-23 boys’ pole vault 5.00m (previous record 4.70m).
