Gateway College Champs for the fourth consecutive year

Gateway College Colombo has once again demonstrated their prowess on the court by winning the 2024 International Schools U13 Boys’ Basketball Tournament, organised by Colombo International School. This victory marks their fourth consecutive championship, solidifying their dominance in the tournament’s history.   
The tournament featured fierce competition among top international school teams, but Gateway College emerged as the undisputed champions. In the group stages, the Gateway Griffins showcased their dominance with commanding victories over Lyceum International School Panadura (25-02), Colombo International School Kandy (22-08), and Lyceum International School Wattala (15-14). Their unbeaten run continued into the quarterfinals, where they defeated Lyceum International School Rathnapura with a decisive 33-08 victory, affirming their status as favorites.   
The semi-final match against Lyceum International School Nugegoda was a nail-biter. Gateway took an early lead, but Lyceum Nugegoda fought back tenaciously. The match was decided by a single point, with Gateway narrowly clinching a 16-15 victory to advance to the finals.   
In the highly anticipated final, Gateway faced the British School Colombo (BSC). BSC initially led with a 3-0 score, but Gateway’s resilience and skill brought them back into the game. With the score tied at 12 points each in the final minutes, Gateway pulled ahead, securing a 20-12 victory. This win not only earned them the championship but also marked a historic fourth consecutive U13 boys title.   
Individual accolades were awarded to standout players from Gateway College. Manuka Suwaris was named Best Defensive Player, while Aadhil Ammar received the Most Valuable Player award, highlighting their crucial contributions to the team’s success.
