Building on their recent All-Island Schools ‘A’ Division Championship victory, Gateway College captured the International Schools Under-15 Basketball Tournament 2024 with a commanding win over the British School of Colombo, 87-29, in the finals. The tournament, featuring 28 teams from 14 schools, showcased seven days of intense competition, with teams divided into Groups A, B, C, and D.
Gateway College’s journey to the title was defined by a series of impressive victories. In the group stage, they opened with a decisive 48-7 win over Gateway College Kandy, followed by a tightly contested 24-19 victory over Lyceum International School Wattala. In the quarterfinals, they powered past Lyceum International School Ratnapura with a score of 65-24. A high-stakes semifinal against Colombo International School Colombo saw Gateway triumph 71-61, securing their place in the finals.
In the championship game, Gateway College once again displayed exceptional skill, teamwork, and preparation, clinching an 87-29 win to take the title. Colombo International School secured third place in the Boys’ division. Gateway captain Ashane Theverapperuma’s leadership and performance earned him the tournament’s MVP award, while vice-captain Samuel Tsung received the Best Defensive Player award for his outstanding shot-blocking and rebounding.
In the Girls’ division, British School Colombo claimed the title with a narrow 43-36 victory over Horizon College International, while Lyceum International School Panadura took third place.
