Gateway host International Schools’ Athletics Championship

Gateway College, a pioneer in international school education, is set to host the prestigious Twenty-second International Schools’ Athletics Championship (ISAC 2024) at the Sugathadasa Stadium on the 24th and 25th of February 2024. This event, which began in 2001, has evolved into the flagship sporting spectacle on the International Schools’ calendar, showcasing the athletic prowess of students from 22 renowned International Schools.   
Founded by the late R. I. T. Alles, ISAC has significantly contributed to the growth of sports among International Schools, leaving an enduring legacy that has brought substantial benefits to the country.   
The championship is expected to draw approximately 1500 athletes and 300 technical officials, representing the participating schools. With an anticipated audience of over 15,000 students, parents, and alumni, the event promises to be a grand celebration of athleticism and camaraderie.   
Dr. Harsha Alles, Chairman of the Gateway Group, emphasized the event’s national significance, stating, “ISAC has become an important platform nurturing talented athletes and showcasing junior athletes of international repute. The standard of Athletics among International Schools has progressively advanced, with several athletes reaching national and international levels, contributing to high-level competition.

Dr. Alles expressed appreciation for the support from academic and international institutions, saying, “It is encouraging to see Pearson Edexcel and Flinders University Australia contributing to the overall development of pupils, promoting healthy minds, accountability, dedication, and leadership.”
