Gayanjali and Dulangi named captain and vice captain for Netball World Cup

Veteran netball players Gayanjali Amarawansa and Dulangi Wannithilake have been recommended by the Sri Lanka Netball Federation as suitable appointments as captain and vice captain respectively to the National Sports Selection Committee and the Ministry of Sports at the 2023 World Cup Netball Tournament.   


The 16th World Cup Netball Tournament conducted by the International Netball Federation is scheduled to be held in Cape Town, South Africa from July 28 to August 6.   
Sri Lanka as 2022 Asian netball champions and Singapore as runner-up from Asia are among 16 countries taking part in this tournament.   


Amarawansa and Wannithilake were Sri Lanka’s captain and vice captain at the 2022 Asian Netball Championship.   


The skipper to be appointed has represented Sri Lanka in three Asian Netball Championships (2016, 2018, 2022) and two World Cups (2015and 2019).   


Deputy skipper Wannithilake has represented the country in two Asian Netball Championships (2018, 2022) and one World Cup Netball Tournament (2019) and can also be called a rising star.   


 Sri Lanka, drawn in Group ‘C’ for the World Cup, are scheduled to compete against Jamaica on July 28, hosts South Africa on July 29 and Wales on July 30.
