Girls’ Under 19 inter-school cricket Semi-finals at Maggona and Campbell Place today

The two semi-finals of the Girls Under 19 inter-schools cricket tournament are scheduled to be worked off today at the Surrey Village ground in Maggona and Nalanda College ground in Campbell Place.


Defending champions Devapathiraja MMV Rathgama will clash against Anula BV Nugegoda at Maggona while last year’s runner up Wadduwa MMV will battle it out against Rathnavalie BV Gampaha at Campbell Place.
In the run up to the semi-finals, defending champion Devapathiraja MMV led by Imesha Dulani ended as the top team in their group with wins against Wadduwa MMV, Meegoda MV, Seelaratne MV Dombagoda, Anura MV Matara, St. Anthony’s Girls Panadura in the first round. They defeated St. Anthony’s Girls’ School Katugastota in the pre-quarter and followed it up with a quarter-final win against Princess of Wales Moratuwa.
Anula BV led by Hashini Liyanage ended as group runner up and recorded wins against Marapola MB, Dharmapala MV Pannipitiya, Princess of Wales Moratuwa, Newstead Girls School Negombo but underwent a defeat against Rathnavalie BV. In the pre-quarter and quarter-final encounters they overcame Ethiliwewa MV Wellawaya and Sri Siddartha MMV Eppawala.


Wadduwa MMV led by Navodya Nethmini booked their berth to the semi-finals having recorded first round wins against Meegoda MV, Seelaratne MMV Dombagoda, Anura MV Matara and St. Anthony’s Panadura before chalking up wins in the pre-quarter and quarter-final encounters against Dudley Senanayake MV Tholangamuwa and Vijayabahu MV Okkampaitiya.


Ratnavalie BV Gampaha led by Vishmi Gunaratne was the only other team to remain unbeaten with first round wins against Dharmapala MV Pannitiya, Princess of Wales Moratuwa, Newstead Girls School Negombo and Anula BV Nugegoda. In the pre-quarter final they overcame Jayasiripura MV Polonnaruwa and in the quarter final they got the better of Anura MV Matara.
