Young A.I.M. Haathim of St. Peter’s College dazzled at the recently concluded 48th Milo Schools Swimming and Diving Championship at the Sugathadasa swimming pool.
The 13-year-old youngster established three new records in the Under 14 age group and the best of the three was that he eclipsed a record that stood for 28 years which was in the Under 14 100m butterfly event where he set a new timing of 1.02.89sec which erased the existing record of 1.03.17sec which was set by Gayan Ranatunga way back in 1995.
The second record established was in the same age group, the 200m Individiual Medley where he set a new timing of 2.26.50secs to erase the timing of 2.31.49secs set by Bihangu Hansana in 2019.The third record the ace swimmer set was in the Boys Under 14 50m butterfly stroke which was his pet event.
He set a new timing of 28.61secs to erase the existing record of 29.22secs set by Bhanuka Jayatileke in 2017.
In fact the young Peterite was the most successful swimmer of the championship and in the process was rewarded with 45 points and for his tireless effort was fittingly adjudged the best swimmer in Boys
