Hagi, Zhou emerge champions

Naomi Hagi of Hong Kong and Xiu Zhou of China came out victorious in the singles events of the girls’ and boys’ categories in the rain hampered ITF Junior Circuit Week 3 tennis tournament played at the SLTA tennis courts in Greenpath, Colombo to emerge champions.  

Hagi the sixth seeded player coasted to an easy win over eighth seeded Sunira Thapa by two sets to nil while fifth seeded in the boy’s category Zhou got the better of giant killer Vishal Vasudev who toppled top seeded Kangyuan Shi of China in the semi final by two sets to nil.  

Meanwhile in the singles events of the girls’ and boys’ categories the Sri Lankan youngsters went out of contention as they lost their matches in the second round. In the girls’ doubles event Sri Lanka’s pair Venuli Jayasinghe and Sandithi Usgodarachchi succeeded to qualify to the final and they were down to meet Abigail Elham of India and Naomi Hagi (Hong Kong) but unfortunately the match was called off due to bad weather.

Boys’ – Xin Zhou (China) beat Vishal Vasudev (India) 2-0 (4/1, 4/1).
