Sri Lanka all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga was named the ICC’s Men’s Player of the Month for June, the International Cricket Council (ICC) announced.
Hasaranga beat out Australia’s Travis Head and Zimbabwe’s Sean Williams, after his stellar bowling performances last month, becoming the first Sri Lankan after Prabath Jayasuriya to win the award.
“I am extremely happy with this award, and it comes at an important moment for Sri Lanka Cricket, after we made it to the Cricket World Cup in India. I am privileged and honoured to have been chosen as the ICC Men’s Player of the Month,” Hasaranga said.
Hasaranga took 26 wickets, averaging 10 runs a dismissal, and equalled Waqar Younis’ record of three consecutive ODI five-wicket hauls.
Hasaranga went on to become the leading wicket-taker at the ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifiers this month, and was included in the Team of the Tournament.
The Women’s Player of the Month prize went to Australia’s star all-rounder Ashleigh Gardner following a memorable performance in the first Women’s Ashes showdown, making her the first to win three ICC Player of the Month awards, having also won in December 2022 and February 2023.
