Havelock SC pulled off a comfortable 22 points to 10 win over Navy SC in the Nippon Paint Rugby League tournament encounter played at the Navy SC ground in Welisara on Thursday.

The win meant that Havies chalked up their second successive win after their close one-point win over Air Force SC while Navy SC though starting the season on a winning note succumbed to their second successive defeat.

The Havelock Park club having led 15-0 at the breather made up their points through two goals, a try and a penalty to a goal and a penalty scored by the Sailors.

It was Havies who made the first scoring in the fourth minute with Dinupa Seneviratne going over for a try, but fly half Sandesh Jayawickrama fluffed the conversion before making amends ten minutes later by booting over a penalty for Havies to lead 8-0.

Havies continued to put their opponents under tremendous pressure and succeeded to penetrate the defence with burly No 8 Christian De Lile going over for a try which
followed by Jayawickrama making no mistake with the conversion.

With the Sailors being unable to make any headway the score stood at 15-0 in favour of the Havies when the short whistle was blown.

On resumption the Sailors put in some stiff resistance and had the Havies in a spot of bother as full back Thilina Weerasinghe booted over an easy penalty and further reduced the Havies lead when centre Mushin Faleel touched down for Weerasinghe to add the extras points.

However Havies undeterred came back with vengeance as they settled down and succeeded to seal the game with Mithun Hapugoda going over for a try and Jayawickrama’s
kick executed to perfection.
