Sri Lanka’s ace leg-spinner Wanindu Hasaranga was signed by Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) for his base price of Rs. 1.5 Crore at the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 Auction held at the Coca-Cola Arena in Dubai yesterday.

Known to work a trick with his variations, the Sri Lankan first became a part of the IPL in 2021 when Royal Challengers Bangalore brought him as a mid-season replacement for Australia’s Adam Zampa.

The Bengaluru-based franchise went for Hasaranga in the following year’s mega auction as well, roping him in for a fee of Rs. 10.75 Crores.
Over the three seasons, Hasaranga featured 26 times and picked 35 wickets at an economy of 8.14.

Hasaranga had the most runs and the most wickets in the Lanka Premier League earlier this season.

Hasaranga has 216 wickets from 157 T20 matches at an average of 16.99. He is also more than a handy batter, having scored over 1,700 T20 runs at a strike rate of 143.08.
Meanwhile, Sri Lanka’s rising fast bowler Dilshan Madushanka was sold to Mumbai Indians (MI) for Rs. 4.60 Crore.

Madushanka had a terrific ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 in India and finished as the second leading wicket-taker of the tournament with 21 wickets in nine games.
Sri Lanka had a dismal performance in the World Cup but Madushanka was one of the bigger positives from the mega event.

Madushanka impressed everyone with his wicket-taking ability and now lands up in India with a huge IPL contract.

Meanwhile, Australia’s left-arm quick Mitchell Starc will return to the IPL after an eight-year hiatus after he was signed by the Kolkata Knight Riders for Rs. 24.75 Crore.
He also became the most expensive player in IPL history, edging past his Aussie Skipper Pat Cummins, who was signed by SRH for Rs. 20.5 Crore earlier in the day.
