Illyas challenges Asia Rugby’s Suspension

Sri Lanka Rugby (SLR) President Rizly Illyas, who had been suspended by Asia Rugby (AR), was able to appeal the case as per the regulations of the Asia Rugby constitution.

The suspension was imposed until 2024, but Illyas has now taken the opportunity to appeal.

Asia Rugby states in a press release that the suspension came after Illyas breached various articles of the Asia Rugby Code of Conduct, including ‘bringing Asia Rugby and the game into disrepute through his actions and comments’ as well as ‘unprofessional behaviour and harassment.’

However, Asia Rugby has failed to specifically point out what Illyas exactly did, which is quite strange, given they have already handed Illyas a suspension but without clearly informing what he did.

Illyas has now made an appeal, and the three members who are not part of Asia Rugby have been appointed as the appeal committee.
