All arrangements have been finalized to conduct the inaugural South Asia Lawyers Cricket Cup organized by the Cricket Association of Advocates in conjunction with Sri Lanka Lawyers Cricket which is scheduled to be held in Colombo from tomorrow onwards.
The seven day tournament slotted to end on April 5 will see teams representing from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka which is held with the aim of encouraging the lawyers to participate in tournaments around the globe.
The initial edition of the South Asia Lawyers Cricket Cup will feature teams from Bangalore, Delihi, Mumbai and Kolkata from India, Lahore and Karachi from Pakistan, Dhaka from Bangladesh and Colombo from Sri Lanka.
The opening ceremony is scheduled to be held on a grand scale at the Colombo Cricket Club (CCC) premises today with dignitaries expected to grace the occasion in the likes of Chief Justice Jayantha Jayasuriya, Judges of the Supreme Court, Justice Buwaneka Alivihara and Justice Yasantha Kodagoda, Minister of Justice Wijeyadasa Rajapakse, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ali Sabry, Minister of Tourism Harin Fernando, President of Sri Lanka Cricket, Shammi Silva and past Sri Lanka cricket captains Arjuna Ranatunga and Aravinda de Silva to name a few.
This is the second major international cricket lawyers cricket tournament being hosted by Sri Lanka Lawyers Cricket with the first being the Sixth Lawyers Cricket World Cup which was held in the year 2007.
The first round of the tournament is scheduled to be completed on April 2 and the semi finals are scheduled to be worked off on April 4. The matches are scheduled to be played at the Colts ground, BRC ground, Thurstan ground and CCC ground where the grand final is slotted to be played on April 5. (MSA)
