Veteran golfer Anura Rohana was pushed to fourth with two Indian golfers Dwivedi Samarath, Chouhan Omprakash and Bangladesh golfer Hossain Jamal holding onto the top three positions in the Dialog Sri Lanka Open Golf Championship 2023 yesterday, after two days of competition at the Royal Colombo Golf Club (RCGC) in Colombo.
Samarath impressed on both days, totalling 133, in securing top spot.
On day two, he scored 61 and was a class above the rest at the RCGC.
He equalled the course record held by Nandasena Perera and Rohana.
Samarath’s countryman Omprakash aggregated 134, closely followed by Jamal at 135.
Sri Lanka’s Rohana, after an impressive opening day score of 67, was off colour yesterday ending on 70, pushing him to fourth but is bound to bounce back.
Meanwhile, youngster Reshan Algama too had an ordinary day by his high standards when he ended four over, to drop down in his rankings to 14th.
K Prabagaran (7), Mithun Perera (10), Chalitha Pushpika (12) and Chanaka Perera (13) ended in the top 36 along with Haroon Aslam who was in 27th position.
Aslam missed out on short putts on many birdies which cost him but he made the cut in the end.
The top 36 ranked golfers made the cut.
The third round tees off today at 8.30 a.m., starting with the bottom ranked golfer before working its way up the field.
There were some class golfers from across the region, including India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Hong Kong, Australia, and Singapore players showing their best at this event which saw more than 117 golfers teeing off in the opening two days.
