Indian actor Madhur Mittal is starring in the biopic of Sri Lankan spinner Muthiah Muralitharan, it is confirmed.
Madhur Mittal’s role in Slum dog Millionaire has helped him to gain worldwide attention.

Two years ago, there were attempts to make a biopic on the famous spinner and Vijay Sethupathi was finalised to play Murali’s role but the idea was dropped after political leaders and several senior film leaders had objected to this movie, saying that Sethupathi should not figure in the film.

“The film is now being prepared by Movie Train Motion Pictures. The star-casts have already been finalised and we intend to release the same early next year,” the source attached with the film, exclusively revealed.
“The 70% shooting of the film has already been completed in Sri Lanka. More shooting will be done in India, England and Australia.”

“The biopic, named as “800” in a tribute to Murali’s 800 Test wickets, shows more of his character and also has famous controversy, when he was no-balled a number of times by umpires in a Boxing Day Test (1995-96) in Australia,” the source further added.

Murali is married to an Indian girl Madhi Mallar and his wife’s role in the movie is being performed by Mahima Nambiar.

Nambiar is an Indian actress who appears in Malayalam and Tamil films.

Muralitharan and his family are now in India and plan to visit famous temples in the South before returning to Sri Lanka on 19th August.
