The Sri Lanka Weightlifting Federation (SLWF) has picked veteran athletes Indika Dissanayake and Chamari Warnakulasuriya to lead the men’s and women’s teams respectively at the Commonwealth Games weightlifting competition to be held from July 28 to August 6 in England.

The SLWF has chosen an 11-member weightlifting squad for the Games (6 men and 5 women).

SLWF secretary G. Nishanthan said Indika and Chamari have been picked as captains based on their seniority and international performances.

In addition to bagging four medals at the Commonwealth Championships, men’s captain Indika Dissanayake won a silver medal in the 69kg weight category at the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games.

Chamari Warnakulasuriya has also won medals at international events and was placed fourth at the 2018 Glasgow Games in the 55kg weight category.
