The Embassy of Indonesia, in collaboration with M&A Badminton Court, successfully convened the first Indonesia Badminton Cup 2024 in Colombo.
The event was attended by Professor Shemal Fernando, Director General of Sports; SSP Harsha Amarasinghe, Director of Diplomatic Security and Claren Homer, the owner of the M&A Badminton Court.
The event was a celebration of Indonesia’s 79th Independence Day,” said Heru Prayitno, Minister Counsellor of the Embassy.
Indonesian Ambassador Dewi Gustina Tobing officially opened the event, stating that the Indonesia Badminton Cup was part of a series of activities to commemorate this occasion.
In his remarks, Professor Fernando congratulated the Indonesian Embassy for organising the tournament and selecting badminton, a globally popular sport.
He acknowledged Indonesia’s achievements in international badminton and appreciated the event for bringing together players from Indonesia and Sri Lanka, fostering camaraderie through sportsmanship.
Sixty-four players participated in the Doubles badminton matches. Md. Reyad Hossain and Laxmanan Sanjeev were declared as the champions while Sakri and Matheesla were the first runners-up.
The trophy presentation is scheduled for August 17 at the Embassy of Indonesia.
