Inquiry into basketball players missing flight to Thailand

The Sri Lanka Basketball Federation (SLBF) will conduct an inquiry into its women’s basketball team that missed a flight to Thailand last week, resulting in the federation incurring an additional expense to purchase new air tickets for the team to travel for the FIBA Women’s Division B Asian Cup 2023.

“Yes they missed the flight, and there are many reasons that led to the delay,” an SLBF official told the Daily Mirror.

“We have an understanding of some of the issues but we hope to conduct an inquiry into the matter when the team returns.”

This comes at a time the federation is struggling financially, having had to rely on the benevolence of sponsors to undertake this trip.

The tournament in itself was disappointing for Sri Lanka, who lost all three of their group phase matches -- 66-34 to Kazakhstan, 82-41 to Jordan and 101-36 to Thailand.
