Inter-International Schools’ Football Championship Gateway College claims fifth title in six years

For the third successive year, Gateway College Colombo claimed the Under 20 Inter-International Schools’ Football Championship 2021 beating Royal Institute 4-3 in the final. 
The tournament could not be held in 2021, and as a result was conducted this year with the participation of 11 international schools. 


Two goals from Umar Shakil and a goal each from Ometh De Silva and Samunu Kaggodaarachchi gave Gateway College Colombo their fifth title in the last six years, becoming the dominant force in international schools’ football. 


Midfielder Kaggodaarachchi was named Player of the Tournament for his outstanding performances from the centre of the pitch, whilst his midfield partner Isa Fahim was adjudged Player of the Final. 


The best goalkeeper’s award went to Themika Welathantri of Lyceum Wattala, whilst Royal Institute captain Asif Ahmed won the Golden Boot scoring eight goals. 


In the Under 16 tournament that was run parallelly, Gateway College Colombo emerged the runner-up, losing 2-1 in a hard-fought final against the Overseas School of Colombo. 
Gateway captain Brian Herath scored 13 goals to win the Golden Boot, while goalkeeper Nadal Senapala was recognized as the Best Goalkeeper of the Tournament. Elliot Correia of the Overseas School was adjudged the Player of the Tournament.
