The completion of the fifth week matches of the Dialog Schools Rugby Under 19 league tournament saw most of fancied teams winning their games with two teams, St. Peter’s College and Trinity College, crossing the 50-point mark.
The Peterites, who scored 56 points, have the honour of posting the highest score of the tournament (56-07) while Trinity scored 55 points (55-10).
Defending champions Isipathana College and St. Peter’s continued their winning streak with the two teams chalking up their fifth and fourth successive wins respectively to remain unbeaten.
The two teams will for sure end the league segment with a hundred percent record with Isipathana having one more match to play, which is against Wesley College, while St. Peter’s take on Science College and Vidyartha.
Meanwhile the unruly behavior of spectators continued, this time following the completion of the match between Isipathana and St. Anthony’s played at
Longdon Place.
This time the victim was Shanitha Fernando, also an ex-rugby player and an old boy from St. Anthony's, who is also the rugby director of the Antonians rugby team.
A spectator had thrown a bottle and in the process he was badly injured and had to be rushed to the hospital but was reported out of danger.
Royal pulled off another convincing win and this win too was similar to the match against Zahira last week.
With the scores level at 12 each at the breather the Royalists ran circles round the Dharmaraja defense in the second half, which ensured a convincing 36-12 win for Royal which was their fourth win of the tournament and with that a slot to the Super Round.
This was a dual-purpose encounter for both the teams as apart for the schools league encounter it was fought out for the Lady Jayatileke Shield with St. Joseph’s seeking to retain the shield and S. Thomas’ looking forward to regaining it.
The final outcome however saw the Thomians coming out on top to avenge their defeat of last year and it was almost the same margin of two-point difference when the Josephians won 30-28.
This year the Thomians won 26-24.
