In a rain-hampered encounter of the Lanka Premier League, Jaffna Kings came out on top with a convincing seven-wicket win over Kandy Warriors in the 12th match of the tournament played at the R. Premadasa Stadium yesterday.

In pursuit of a challenging target of 95 runs in 12.2 overs, skipper Thisara Perera made it look easy by slamming a quick-fire unbeaten knock of 29 in 13 balls that included four boundaries and a six, and in the process, he shared an unbroken stand of 43 runs with Shoaib Malik to help race to the target with ease in the ninth over.
The early proceedings were hampered by rain on two occasions, with the Kandy Warriors being invited to take the first lease of the wicket. The first was after seven overs of batting when they were on 47 for 1, which saw a good 75 minutes of play being lost.

On resumption, the match was curtailed to 16 overs and the Kandy Warriors going in for quick runs succeeded to some extent as they added another 47 runs from 5.2 overs before it was stopped again due to rain and their innings came to a close with the score on 94 for 2, which proved to be insufficient to defend. The Jaffna Kings achieved their four wins from five matches.
