John Tarbat Senior Athletics Meet in September

The Education Ministry had given approval to stage the Sir John Tarbat Schools Senior Athletics Championship from September 12 to 16 at the Diyagama Mahinda Rajapaksa Sports Complex. The meet will be worked off after a lapse of two years due to Covid-19 pandemic.   

 Applications will be accepted from June 2022 from participants willing to take part in the above meet.   

 The senior meet will held in four age groups for girls and boys – Under 16, 18, 20 and 23. Under 23 event will be the latest to be added this year.   

 Plans have been finalsed to conduct the John Tarbat Junior meet from December 8 to 10 at the Diyagama Mahinda Rajapaksa Sports Complex and it will be 
worked off in three stages.   

The first stage, which is the preliminary rounds of Central, Sabaragamuwa and Uva will be held at the Embilipitiya Mahaweli Grounds while events for North Western, North Central, Northern and Eastern will be held at the Anuradhapura Public grounds. The Western and Southern preliminary rounds will be held at the Beliatta D.A. Rajapaksa Grounds.   
 Winners of the three stages will qualify to participate in the Sir John Tarbat Junior Athletics Championship.
