John Tarbat Senior Meet from Sept. 30

The 92nd Sir John Tarbat Senior Athletic Championship 2024, conducted by the Sri Lanka Schools Athletic Association (SLSAA) will be held from September 30 to October 3 at the Sugathadasa Stadium in Colombo.

This meet was scheduled for September 10 to 13 but was put off because of the fourth South Asian Junior Athletic Championship, which was held in Chennai, India.

This is the second major all-island event for the calendar year conducted by the SLSAA after completing the All-Island Schools Relay Championship.

This year’s third and last major all-island event will be the Sir John Tarbat Junior Athletic Championship, which will be held in November.

Nearly 4,500 athletes representing over 350 schools will compete in the Sir John Tarbat Senior Athletic Championship, SLSAA sources revealed yesterday.

The meet will be conducted in three age group categories including Under-16, Under-18 and Under-20 for Boys and Girls.

The meet will commence with the Boys’ and Girls’ Under-20 5,000m finals at 7.00 a.m. and 7.30 a.m. respectively.

Last year’s Girls’ overall championship was secured by A. Rathnayaka Central College, Walala with an impressive total of 190 points.

Lyceum, Wattala claimed the runners-up position with 150 points while Sumana BV, Ratnapura secured third place with 51 points.

On the Boys’ side, the championship title was won by Lyceum, Wattala, amassing a total of 136 points.

St. Benedict’s College earned the runners-up position with 82 points and St. Joseph Vaz College, Wennappuwa secured third place with a commendable 73 points.

The meet will be sponsored by CBL Ritzbury for the 12th year.
