Junior Match Play Championship 2023 Jevahn shocks Reshan to enter Gold Segment final

Jevahn Sathasivam was in top form

The Junior Match Play Championship 2023 progressed to its final stages, showcasing the exceptional skills of young junior golfers, with both Jevahn Sathasivam and K Danushan progressing towards the final stages of the Boys’ Gold Division, which will take place at the Royal Colombo Golf Course today.  
The Gold Division semi-finals witnessed intense matches that left spectators on the edge of their seats.  
Sathasivam, the 15-year-old lad from Asian International School (AIS), managed to secure a hard-fought win against the highly favored Reshan Algama on the 19th hole in a sudden-death play-off.  


Sathasivam overcame Algama who had an ordinary day by his high standard while Sathasivam able to topple the favored Algama out of the final contention. Sathasivam playing some consistent golf in the recent past is catching up at electrifying speed.  
K Danushan displayed his prowess with an impressive victory, defeating Vinudha Weerasinghe 5-4.  
The upcoming clash between K Danushan and Sathasivam in the Gold Division final promises to be a breathtaking showdown, a testament to the immense talent and competitive spirit of these young golfers.  


The Girls’ Gold Division also witnessed extraordinary performances.  
Kaya Daluwatte, drawing from her overseas experience and innate talent, secured her spot in the final by triumphing over Dinumi Sanjana with a resounding 9-7 victory.  
Sherin Balasuriya exhibited her prowess by convincingly defeating Dhavinka Kanag-Isvaran with a score of 6-4.  
The final in this division is poised to be an electrifying contest between Daluwatte and Balasuriya with the former holding the key in this encounter.  
In the Silver Division, Adithya Weerasinghe faced a tough challenge against Keshav Algama, narrowly clinching victory with a 2-up win on the 18th hole.  
Kaiyan Johnpillai showcased his skills with a convincing 5-4 win against Shenal Nimsith.  
The Silver Division finals will be between Weerasinghe and Johnpillai.  
The Silver Division Girls segment saw Kaitlyn Norton and Keya Abhayaratne emerging victorious in their semi-final matches, setting the stage for an eagerly awaited final showdown between these talented individuals.  
In the Bronze Division Boys, Revaan Amarasinghe continued his winning streak by overcoming Lavidu Premarathna with a 3-2 victory.  
Yehansa Senanayake also showcased his mettle, triumphing over Anuja Methsara in the 19th hole playoff.  
The final in this division will witness a fierce competition between Amarasinghe and Senanayake.  
Genuli Abesundara secured her place in the Bronze Division Girls final with a 3-2 win in the semi-finals, where she will face Nimasha Dhamli, who triumphed over Hesandi Gayasa Meepola with a score of 4-2.  


In the Copper Division, Jaeden Sathasivam, one of the youngest in the tournament at 8-year-old from AIS and the younger brother of Jevahn, demonstrated his skills with a convincing 4-3 victory against Ananya Kishanthan.  
He will meet Yuvan Rathis Kanth, younger brother of Thejas in what promises to be an engaging final match.
