Karisan, Abishek shine for St. John’s

The first day’s proceedings of the annual 115th Battle of the North big match between traditional rivals St. John’s College Jaffna and Jaffna Central College played at the Central ground in Jaffna saw St. John’s recover to make 167 runs and Jaffna Central reach stumps on 6 for 0 at stumps.


St. John’s after being given a sound start by openers Kuganeswaran Karisan and Sachin Kanapathi who together put on 59 runs fell into deep trouble after the separation of the pair. 


St. John’s from a position of 83 for 1 lost five quick wickets for the addition of 16 runs when they slipped to a score of 99 for 6 before Anton Abishek came to their rescue with a fine knock of 40 to help them end with a score of 167 runs. 


For Jaffna Central Vinajakaselvam Kavitharsan and Jayatheeswaran Vithusan shared six wickets between them. The match will be continued today.
