Kelaniya University clinch maiden rugby title

The University of Kelaniya Team emerged champions in the 2022 Inter-University Rugby  Championship, held at the Police Park in Bambalapitiya.

The University of Kelaniya Team defeated the University of Sri Jayewardenepura 28-19 in the final to claim their maiden rugby title having earlier reached the final twice in 1992 and in 2019.
The winners took a commanding 28-5 lead at half time and with two players down with injuries they held on determinedly in the second half despite a late comeback from their opponents.
Meanwhile, Sabaragamuwa Province secured third place in this tournament, where a total of 14 government universities participated.
