Kumara claims early lead in Rajawella

The July National Golf Ranking Championship teed off with a surprising leaderboard on Day 1 as P. D. S. U. Kumara emerged as the early leader, shooting one over par 74 at the Victoria Golf Resort (VGR) Course in Rajawella.  

Three leading golfers, Priya Hemantha, the renowned Sri Lankan professional, Anura Rohana and Chalitha Pushpika all tied for second place with scores of 76.  

Meanwhile, young Musa Shariff, currently based in the United Arab Emirates, finished the day in fourth with a score of 77, followed closely by inform Haroon Aslam, who scored 78, securing the fifth and sixth places respectively.  

Aslam, the winner of the last tournament played in Digana and currently studying and playing golf in the United States, remained within striking distance of the top spot, ensuring a thrilling contest over the next three days.  

A record number of 64 teed off on day 1 - inclusive of six entries from the Ladies.
