MCA Cricket Academy U-15 team wins ICCA Champions trophy

The Mercantile Cricket Association Cricket Academy U-15 Team, led by Vishan Gunasekera emerged as unbeaten champions in the 2nd International Cricket   
 Council Academies (ICCA) “Champions Trophy” tournament 2023 concluded in Colombo.   


In the final played at the MCA grounds, the MCA Cricket Academy beat Karnataka Institute of Cricket, Bangalore, India by 27 runs.   


MCA CA, who won the toss and opt to bat, finished with 171 runs in 48.5 overs, helped by two good innings by their opening, batsman Binoth Sandil, who scored a quick fire 63 runs in 48 balls, inclusive of four sixes and three fours and a patient 40 runs in 86 balls with two fours, by middle order batsman, Dewmith Thaksilu.   


The Karnataka team was bamboozled by the MCA’s two left arm leg spinners, Lesan Perera (10-3-23-3) and Shan Induwara (10-1-33-6) to get them all out for 144 runs in 46.1 overs.

20th December at MCA : MCA Cricket Academy beat Dessert Cubs CA, UAE by nine wickets; Dessert Cubs – 97 all out in 38.2 overs ; MCA CA – 101 for 1 in 18 overs.   
21st December at Colts : MCA Cricket Academy beat Ramah Sports Academy, Zimbabwe by 161 runs; MCA CA – 315 all out in 49.5 overs; Ramah SA – 154 all out in 38.2 overs   
23rd December at Thurstan : MCA CA beat Karnataka Institute, India by three wickets; KIOC – 192 /7 in 50 overs ; MCA 197/7 in 40.4 overs   
24th December at Colts : MCA CA beat Dessert Cubs CA, UAE by 177 runs; MCA CA – 261 /7 in 50 overs ; Dessert Cubs – 84 all out in 18.1 overs.   
26th December at Thurstan : MCA CA beat Ramah Sports Academy, Zimbabwe by 240 runs ; MCA CA – 297 all out in 48 overs; Ramah SA – 57 all out in 20.2 overs.   
27th December at MCA : Final – MCA CA beat Karnataka Institute of Cricket, India by 27 runs. MCA CA – 171 all out in 48.5 overs (Binoth Sandil 63, Dewmith Thksilu 40 ); KIOC – 144 all out in 46.1 overs (Lesan Perera 3/23, Shan Induwara 6/33)
