MCA ‘G’ Division Final Abans Group bag Honda Trophy

Abans Group led by W.B. Dhanushka bagged their first Mercantile Cricket title, the 10th Stafford Motor Co. Ltd., sponsored, Honda Trophy MCA ‘G’Division League Tournament 2020/21, when they beat Pyramid Wilmar by 46 runs in the final concluded on August 7 at the MCA grounds.

Abans, who won the toss and batted, put up a challenging 201 for 8 in 25 overs riding on a solid opening stand of 65 runs between O. Nimrode De Vesser (69) and Isuru Jayaranga (25). 

Skipper W.B. Dhanushka (25) and Dusham Hettiarachchi (38 not out) held the middle order batting against the containing spells of Pyramid Wilmar’s spinners, Umedha Madushan (5 for 30) and Chandimal Chanaka (3 for 27).
Pyramid Wilmar, despite a solid 70-run stand for the fourth wicket between skipper Lasith Fernando (47) and Malith Peiris (25) caved in for 155 runs in 22 overs with the rest of batsmen falling like nine–pins, having no answer to Abans spinners Isuru Hashan (5 for 29) and Dilan Sanjeewa (2 for 27).  

Abans opening batsman cum wicket-keeper Nimrode De Vesser was named the Man of the Match. 
The other special awards went to Sahan Nanayakkara from Hayleys Group B (Best Bowler), Dinuja Sandaru from Aitken Spence Group (Best Batsman) and Dinesh Kaushalya from Abans Group (Man of the Series).
Awards were given away by Director/Chief Operating Officer, Charaka Perera (Chief Guest) GM, Damitha Jayasundera (Guest of Honour) both from Stafford Motor Co. Ltd.,and MCA Officials, Rohana Dissanayake, President, Sirosha Gunatillake, General Secretary and Tarindra Kaluperuma, Chairman, Tournament Committee.
