MCA Super Premier T20 gets off to a rain-affected start

The 29th Singer –MCA Super Premier League 2022, the 03rd segment – T20 tournament got off to a disappointing start marred by bad weather on Saturday at the MCA grounds.


The starter game between John Keells and Mode Engineering was abandoned without a ball being bowled. The afternoon match between Hayleys and HNB got off to a late start, being reduced to a 14-overs a side game, which Hayleys won handsomely by 40 runs. Lasith Croospulle, back with Hayleys after National duty, blasted a 30-ball 71, inclusive of seven sixes and two fours, as Hayleys finished with a formidable 166/9 in 14 overs. Madhawa Warnapura stood firm for HNB bagging 4/13.


HNB succumbed to the challenge, scoring 126/9 in 14 overs; Kasun Abeyratne was the top scorer with 22 runs, while Kalana Perera (3/19) bowled the best for Hayleys. Today’s matches at the De Soysa Park, Moratuwa will see John Keells play Sampath Bank in the morning while HNB takes on CDB in the afternoon. (BM)
