MCA to revamp Premier League, given exclusive window

After a disappointing 2021 season, the MCA Tournament Committee is keen to revamp the 29th Singer-MCA Premier League 2022.

Their first move was to obtain an exclusive window to conduct this glamorous and highly competitive set of tournaments -- the League, the Knock-out and the T20 -- from Sri Lanka Cricket, which they have succeeded in. SLC has agreed not to conduct any of their tournaments from early May to end June 2022. 

The Tournament Committee also requested SLC to enter their U-19 team or their Emerging team to participate alongside with the best teams in the Mercantile sector. 
Their next move was to request SLC to help with the total requirement of white balls for all three segments on a complimentary basis, which will greatly help the participating teams with their budget constraints. 

The MCA’s primary concern is to rope in eight to 10 teams to play.

The Singer-MCA top division tournament commenced in 1994 with only the league, won by ACW Insurance who beat Nawaloka Group under lights at R Premadasa.
The knock-out segment was introduced in 2001 and the T20 in 2004.

The tournament was transformed into white ball and coloured clothing status in 2009.
