The National Olympic Committee of Sri Lanka (NOCSL) has appointed Maj. Gen. Dampath Fernando (Rtd) as Chef de Mission of the Sri Lanka team for the 22nd Commonwealth Games.
The 2022 Commonwealth Games is scheduled to be held from July 28 to August 8 in Birmingham, England.
A veteran Sports Administrator, Fernando was also Chef de Mission of the Sri Lanka team at the 2019 Kathmandu South Asian Games and had served as Chef de Mission and Deputy Chef de Mission for several events previously.
The NOCSL and Sports Ministry hopes to send a 200-member contingent from Sri Lanka for the Commonwealth Games, NOCSL President Suresh Subramaniam told the Daily Mirror yesterday.
It will comprise 150 athletes and 50 officials including managers, coaches and doctors, Subramaniam added.
NOCSL has yet to decide on what sports Sri Lanka will take part in at the Commonwealth Games but they hope to restrict it to 17 disciplines.
