Sadeera Samarawickrama shone with an unbeaten knock of 58 inclusive of four boundaries which helped Tamil Union record an easy seven wicket win over Army SC in the final of the Major Club limited over cricket tournament played at the SSC ground yesterday.

Sadeera’s knock enabled Tamil Union chasing a revised target of 153 runs in 37 overs to race to the target in the 32nd over for Tamil Union to emerge champion and to retain the title for yet another year.

Tamil Union was given a sedate start of 41 by openers Dilruwan Perera and Ron Chandragupta which followed by Sadeera associating in two valuable partnerships first of 41 with Dilruwan who made 37 for the second wicket and the other of 65 runs for the third wicket with Navod Paranavithana who chipped in with a 32.

Earlier in the day Army SC skipper Thisara Perera winning the toss and opting to take first lease of the wicket fell into deep trouble losing their first three wickets with the score on 13.

They lost three more quick wickets and struggled on 84 for 6 in the 22nd over before Asela Gunaratne and Mahesh Kumara who both made half tons came to their rescue with the pair putting on 74 runs for the seventh wicket for Army SC to end with a respectable score of 198 runs.
