Spinner Jeffrey Vandersay guided Tamil Union to clinch the Major Club Limited Over cricket tournament title with a five wicket haul in recording a comfortable 36 run win over Ragama CC at P. Sara Stadium yesterday.
Vandersay supported by Dilum Sudeera and Pramod Madushan who together shared four wickets between them helped Tamil Union to bowl out Ragama CC for a score of 145 runs.
Ragama CC in their run chase put themselves in a spot of bother as they collapsed to 90 for 5 in the 23rd over. The late batting was not able to make any impression.
Earlier in the day Tamil Union invited to take first lease of the wicket underwent some anxious moments as and the halfway stage of the innings they were struggling on 89 for 4 before a top knock of 47 by Santhush Gunatilake enabled them to end their innings with a modest score of 181.
Tamil Union: 181 for 9 in 50 overs (Santhush Gunatilake 47, Supun Kavinda 42, Sadeera Samarawickrama 34, Ravindra Fernando 15, Shiran Fernando 17 n.o.: Kalhara Senaratne 2 for 22, Ishan Jayaratne 2 for 27, Janaka Sampath 2 for 29, Nipun Malinga 2 for 36)
Ragama CC: 145 in 32.4 overs (Saminda Fernando 38, Ishan Jayaratne 26, Nishan Madushka 23, Janaka Sampath 20, Janith Liyanage 17: Jeffrey Vandersay 5 for 27, Dilum Sudeera 2 for 28, Pramod Madushan 2 for 45)
