An unbeaten half ton by Madawa Warnapura supported by skipper Dilshan Munaweera and Himasha Liyanage helped Negombo CC to record a close 17 run win over Ace Capital CC in the match played in the morning session at the NCC ground to begin their campaign of the Major Club T20 cricket tournament on a winning note.
Skipper Munaweera who cracked a 19 ball knock of 38 inclusive of three boundaries and three sixes shared a 45 run stand for the second wicket with Liyanage who made 45 in 35 balls with five boundaries and two sixes which followed with Liyanage associating in another valuable 59 runs for the 3rd wicket. Warnapura made an unbeaten 52 off 37 balls which had four boundaries and two sixes for Negombo CC to make a score of 152 for 9.
Ace Capital CC in their run chase fell into deep trouble as they lost their top five wickets for 61 runs with Munaweera and Pasindu Madawa doing the damage. Ace Capital CC despite put in some resistance was unable to achieve the target as they were restricted to a score of 135.
In a low scoring match Moors SC prevailed with a two wicket win over Badureliya SC which was also played in the morning session at the Army ground in Panagoda.
BRC pulled off an easy six wicket win over Chilaw Marians CC in the evening session match played at the Army ground in Panagoda while SSC managed a five wicket win against Tamil Union in a low scoring match played in the evening at the NCC ground
