Masters Badminton Tourney gets underway

Shuttlers representing 11 nations began their quests for title glory as the Ceylon Masters Badminton Tournament kicked off at three venues in Colombo yesterday.

The high-profile four-day tournament, held at the Mercantile Badminton Courts, Sri Lanka Badminton Courts and the Otter AC Courts sees 536 players from Australia, Canada, China, India, Indonesia, UAE, Norway, Malaysia, USA and Sri Lanka in action.

Yesterday’s grand opening ceremony was held at the Mercantile Badminton Courts, and Sri Lankan cricket legend Aravinda de Silva was the chief guest.

The organising committee, spearheaded by Ceylon Masters Badminton President Rohan de Silva and supported by a dedicated panel of executive committee members, is looking after smooth sailing of the tournament which is regarded as one of the most prestigious events in Sri Lanka’s badminton calendar.

With top-tier talent from around the globe and meticulous planning, the Ceylon Masters Badminton Tournament is set to deliver world-class action over the next few days.
