Mercantile Volleyball to resume after two years

The entries for the Mercantile Volleyball Championship 2022 will close on October 1, the Mercantile Volleyball Association (MVA) announced yesterday.
The tournament will be conducted by the MVA after a lapse of two years with MAS Holdings as the platinum sponsor.


The first round matches of the MVA Volleyball Tournament will be kicked off on October 22-23 at the Volleyball House Indoor Stadium, Galle. All the final matches will be played on November 20 at the NYSC indoor stadium in Maharagama.


The tournament will be divided into two sections: the MVA-Pro Tournament for Men and Women and the Novices Tournament for Men and Women.
Meanwhile, the Mercantile Super League Tournament will not be conducted this year, MVA Senior Vice-President Chandana Wijesingha told the ‘Daily Mirror’ yesterday.
Over 100 teams are set to participate in the Mercantile Volleyball Championship.


The MVA-Pro Men’s champions will receive a cash award of LKR 150,000, the runners-up will receive a cash award of LKR 100,000, and the third-place team will receive a cash award of LKR 50,000.


The MVA-Pro Women’s champions will receive a cash award of LKR 100,000, the runners-up LKR 60,000, and third place will receive a cash award of LKR 30,000.
In addition, the most outstanding player in the men’s tournament will receive a cash award of LKR 150,000 and the most outstanding player in the women’s tournament will receive a cash award of LKR 100,000.


The men’s and women’s Novices champions will receive a cash award of LKR 50,000 each, the runners-up LKR 30,000 each, and third place LKR 20,000 each.
The best players in the men’s and women’s Novices Tournament will receive a cash award of LKR 50,000 each.
