Methwan, Ivanka bow out of contention

Colombo, Jan. 31 (Daily Mirror) - Sri Lanka’s Methwan Wijemanne and Ivanka Samarasinghe bowed out of contention of the ongoing ITF Junior Circuit Tennis Week 2 tournament when they were beaten in the quarter finals in the girls' and boys' singles segment played at the SLTA tennis courts in Greenpath, Colombo.

The pair lost to Korean opponents by identical margins of two sets to nil with Wijemanne going down Dong Hyeon Euom and Samarasinghe going to Seo Yun Choi.

Meanwhile apart from Seo Yun Choi and Dong Hyeon Euom the others to to book the semi final berths were Felitsata Dorofeeva-Rybas (Russia), Siyoen Sim (Korea) and Julian Cai (China) in the girls' category and Riku Hiqashi (Japan), Kevin Titus Suresh (India) and Jahfal Muna Kanahaya (Indonesia) in the Boys' category.

The semi finals are scheduled to be worked off tomorrow.

Quarter Finals:

  • Girls' – Seo Yun Choi (Korea) beat Ivanka Samarasinghe (Sri Lanka) 2-0 (6/4, 6/3). Felitsata Dorofeeva-Rybas (Russia) beat Yan Rong Tzeng (Taipei) 2-0 (6/0, 6/2). Siyoen Sim (Korea) beat Nonoka Shimizu (Japan) 2-0 (6/1, 6/3). Julian Cai (China) beat Rei Miyamora (Japan) 2-0 (6/4, 6/4).
  • Boys' – Riku Hiqashi (Japan) beat Matthew Goh (Malaysia) 2-1 (6/2, 2/6, 6/3). Kevin Titus Suresh (India) beat Ivan Timofeev (Russia) 2-0 (6/4, 6/0). Dong Hyeon Euom (Korea) beat Methwan Wijemanne (Sri Lanka) 2-0 (6/4, 6/0). Jahfal Muna Kanahaya (Indonesia) beat Hung-Jui Cheng (Taipei) 2-1 (5/7, 6/2, 7/6).
