Methwan Wijemanne in action

Sri Lanka’s Methwan Wijemanne qualified to play in two finals of the ITF Junior Tennis Championship when he came on top in the Boys’ Singles and Boys’ Doubles semi-finals at the SLTA Courts in Green Path, Colombo yesterday.
In the Boys’ Singles semi-final, Methwan overcame Devesh Sarawanan of Malaysia 2-0 and then partnered by Vichinthya Nilaweera the pair got the better of the Chinese Taipei pair of Hung Jui Chen and Shang En Kao 2-0.
Meanwhile Sri Lanka’s Dinara de Silva and Nilaweera bowed out of contention when they lost their respective semi-finals to their opponents from South Korea and India.

Girls’ Singles (semi-finals): Seo Yun Choi (South Korea) beat Dinara de Silva (Sri Lanka) 6-3, 7-5. Siyoen Sim (South Korea) beat Jialan Cai (China) 3-6, 7-5, 6-4. Boys’ Singles (semi-finals): Methwan Wijemanne (Sri Lanka) beat Devesh Sarawanan (Malaysia) 6-3, 6-2. Kevin Suresh (India) beat Vichinthya Nilaweera (Sri Lanka) 6-1, 6-2. Boys’ Doubles (semi-finals): Methwan Wijemanne/Vichinthya Nilaweera (Sri Lanka) beat Hung Jui Chen/Shang En Kao (Chinese Taipei) 6-2, 6-3.
