The Sri Lanka Esports Association (SLESA) has announced the Dialog-SLESA All-Island Free Fire Championship -- a district-wise Esports tournament being organised to discover the next generation of Esports talent from across the island.

With the support of its main sponsor Dialog and strategic partner Gamer.lk, the Championship will feature a prize pool of Rs. one million and will be organised around one of Sri Lanka’s most popular Esports titles -- Free Fire, a multiplayer battle royale mobile game, developed and published by game publisher Garena.
The tournament which has received endorsement by Garena commences in May 2022 with all matches being played online due to the ongoing pandemic situation, allowing participants to play remotely from the comfort of their homes without the need to travel to a central location.

The Championship which is set to create nationwide interest in Esports will see teams compete to top their district and earn themselves a place in the National Final.

“The digital nature of Electronic Sports allows athletes, regardless of where they live, to connect remotely and compete with thousands of others across the country. With the Dialog-SLESA All-Island Free Fire event, we’re able to take structured and healthy Esports to youth all across the island.

This will produce the next generation of Esports athletes that will represent the nation on the global stage.” said Raveen Wijayatilake, President of SLESA.

Esports is known as the fastest-growing sport in the country and an officially recognised sport in Sri Lanka by the Ministry of Sports. Esports athletes from Sri Lanka have represented their country at an international level and are looking to bring home a medal when they compete in Esports at the 19th Asian Games to be held in Hangzhou, China.

SLESA was founded in 2012 by Gamer.lk along with four founding members and has continued to pave the way for the sport to grow in the country in a systematic manner which has been recognised even internationally.
