Minister appoints Competent Authority for football after suspending FSL

Sports Minister Roshan Ranasinghe, who has suspended the local administration of Football Sri Lanka (FSL) which has been banned by FIFA, has appointed the Acting Director General of the Department of Sports Development A. Muthumala as the Competent Authority to continue its administrative activities temporarily.


The Minister of Sports has issued a special gazette stating that the current football administration has been suspended according to the powers assigned under the Sports Act.
Relevant measures have been taken in accordance with the powers assigned to the Minister of Sports under Sections 32 (b) and 33 of the Sports Act No. 25 of 1973.
Due to various problems in the FSL administration, FIFA banned Sri Lanka, and the Sports Minister also took steps to appoint a five-member special investigation committee chaired by former High Court Judge Kusala Sarojani Weerawardena to look into the crisis in the Football Federation. After the completion of the investigations, the committee handed over the report to the Minister of Sports on April 4.


According to the report, it was revealed that 30 instances of corruption took place in the last decade from 2012 to 2022.
A former Member of Parliament J.C. Ranga was working as FSL President until now.
