Moors SC emerge Plate Champions

Moors SC emerged the Premier Tier A Plate Champions when they ended their campaign in style with a convincing innings and 103-run win against Lankan CC in the final round match concluded at the NCC ground today.

Left-arm spinner Praveen Jayawickrama who ended with a match bag of 7 for 152 was the architect of Moors SC’s victory.

Lankan CC resumed from their overnight score of 209 for 5 and were restricted to 320 runs, with Jayawickrama bagging five scalps. Lankan CC were made to follow on with a deficit of 279 runs but failed to achieve it as they were bowled out for 176 runs.

In the other two matches which ended today at the Colts and De Zoysa Stadium Moratuwa, Negombo CC and SSC recorded comfortable first innings wins against Tamil Union and Badureliya SC respectively.

Moors SC clinched the Plate title having ended on top of the table with 67.89 points, followed by Negombo CC 59.00, Tamil Umiom 41.46, Lankan CC 34.59, SSC 26.32 and Badureliya SC 23.39.
