NOCSL SG says smear campaign a local and international conspiracy

The Secretary General of the National Olympic Committee of Sri Lanka (NOCSL) Maxwell de Silva says that a conspiracy is being hatched against him locally and internationally.  

He charged that a group of conspirators are slinging mud and making accusations against the NOCSL with the aim of hindering his progress which cannot be prevented, de Silva said at a press conference held at the NOCSL Auditorium in Colombo on August 22.Without strongly denying the allegations levelled against him by some newspapers without explaining what they were, the SG said he has found that some people who came to the NOCSL with his support have now joined other groups and launched this smear campaign against him.   

“I will not take any action against the media no matter what accusations are made through the media. The media is friendly to me. I am also friendly to the media. I am ready to resolve any issue through discussions. Any news can be published in the media. Wherever I am in the world, I will reply through WhatsApp,” he said.  

 The NOCSL Secretary General made these observations during a media conference called to explain the various difficulties that occurred during the 7th Commonwealth Youth Games 2023 such as obtaining visas to officials who represented athletic, swimming and beach volleyball for the Sri Lanka team’s participation in Trinidad and Tobago.
